Portfolio Questions
Some questions about the portfolio are not about a wrong number. They are about what this tool is for. Here is the honest scope of it.

Which coin should I buy
CryptoKar has no opinion on that, and a tax tool offering one would be worth ignoring. Its job starts after the trade: read what happened, work out the cost basis, compute the tax, produce the report.
What it does
- Reads the exchange files you import and works out what you hold.
- Values those holdings in rupees and shows the gain or loss on them.
- Matches every disposal with FIFO and computes the tax on it.
- Produces a report with your Schedule VDA rows, TDS and working.
What it does not do
- Recommend a coin, a time to buy, or a time to sell.
- Connect to your exchange to place any order.
- Predict a price or offer a view on where a market is heading.
- File your return for you on the income tax portal.
Can you sell for me
No. Realising a gain means disposing of the coin, and that happens on your exchange, by you. CryptoKar reads files you upload. It holds no API keys, no withdrawal rights and no ability to place an order.
- Sell on the exchange, then import the export that covers the sale.
- The gain moves out of unrealised and into realised profits, and reaches your report from there.
- Files are read in your browser during import, which is also why nothing happens without you uploading something.
Why it differs from a price site
- A price site tells you what one coin is worth. Your portfolio depends on how many you hold, which comes from your transactions.
- Gain needs cost as well as price, and cost comes from your purchases rather than from any market.
- Rupee prices move with the exchange rate, so two sources can differ slightly at the same moment.
- Coins with no reliable price are excluded from value rather than counted as zero, which a price site has no reason to do.
Differences large enough to matter usually have a cause worth finding. Work through the four common ones.
What CryptoKar is not
It is a calculator and a record, built to produce a report you can file from. It is not an adviser, a broker, or a filing service.
Frequently Asked Questions
